Suzanne Kathleen Smith Broadhead was diagnosed with stage four cancer on July 3rd, 2006.  The book “Cancer vs. The Hockey Mom” is her story from that point on and how she turned a fatal diagnosis into a desire to live life to the fullest.  She not only lived her life treasuring every minute, but was infectiously optimistic and touched several lives as she proved to be an example of how to deal with adversity. There were ups and downs as she waged her battle with death, but when she was down her faith, her family, her community, and her love of hockey kept her going. Those loves of her life gave her a reason to keep fighting and to keep dreaming of a better day in the future.

This is a story about a family faced with adversity.  They have the choice of letting the adversity weigh them down with worry or to choose to enjoy whatever time they have together.  They chose to live for the time they have and not let the worries of tomorrow weigh them down.  Suzie chose life and love and offers a great example of how sticking to the basics can make insurmountable problems disappear.  Life is not about a happy ending, we all end the same, it is about enjoying the ride.

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.
